Tanya Croteau Founder & Master Instructor Hi! I'm Tanya, owner of barre n9ne® studio! I'm so glad you have decided to learn about barre n9ne®, aka my happy place!
A little about me: I love music and I LOVE to dance. I also love to workout and help people achieve their fitness goals. My ultimate goal is to make fitness fun, keep it fresh and exciting, and create a space that is inviting, motivating and judgement-free! I also have two amazing (and energetic) little boys who keep me busy when I'm not at the barre. These little guys are the inspiration behind everything I do. I want them to grow up learning how important it is to take care of your body and to be active in some way each and every day.
My "resume": At 3 years old my dad signed me up for dance and gymnastics classes. I loved it so much that at age 18 I began teaching dance and fitness class for studios across the North Shore. While attending Suffolk University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, I was a member of Phunk Phenomenon Urban Dance Theater for 5 years participating in numerous performances all over the New England area to include: Kiss 108FM Summer Concert, Boston Celtics Games halftime and timeout performances, Jordan’s Furniture Camp Miracles and many local charities. Upon graduation, I began working full time at a financial advising firm in Danvers, MA & continued my passion for performing. I spent the ’05, ’06, and ’07 seasons cheering with the New England Patriots Cheerleaders. During my years with the team I was selected to travel overseas with the Air Force Reserves to entertain troops from all branches of the military. Myself and five other women from my squad visited Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Germany, and Qatar. I was also selected as one of 8 women to travel to China in 2007 to promote American Football. In addition I was a Boston Bruins Ice Girl for the the 2008-2009 season. Currently I own and operate barre n9ne studio® and am also the Head Game Day Cheer Coach and Competitive Dance Team coach for a local private school.
Why did I create barre n9ne® studio: From the moment I took my first barre class I fell in love with it! The combination of strength training with light weights, light cardio bursts, stretching, and just the flow of the movement to music made me want to run home and sign up for another class- and then another and another! I became addicted! For years I spent every free moment I had taking and studying barre classes all over the U.S. There were so many different methods out there to experiment with. After 13 years of teaching dance and fitness classes I took my entire savings account (and a huge leap of faith!) and in March 2010 I opened the doors to barre n9ne®. I wanted to share this incredible workout method with the north shore. The local community was unfamiliar with barre workouts back then which made my job even more fun! barre n9ne® was the first barre studio to open north of Boston. I can still clearly remember each family member of mine asking how my "dance studio was going" :) Slowly but surely barre workouts really took off north of Boston. Nothing compares to the way this workout changes your body in record breaking time- AND it's fun! YES FUN! I promise :) And that shake at the barre that you have heard about is like NOTHING you have experienced before! I invite you to try a class and see what barre n9ne® is all about. I make no promises that it will be easy, but it will be worth it, and you may become addicted!
Who are classes a fit for? Anyone and everyone! You name it, I've had them in class! A few of my favorites have been the time I taught a class to three generations of women- a grandmother, daughter and granddaughter! And let's not forget about the time when a handful of women brought their sons to class and we totally kicked their butts :) Or when some hubbies came for a workout with their wives around Valentine's Day and were {quite literally} dying on the mat and at the barre! Or another favorite; during the shutdown teaching sold out live virtual classes to elementary and middle school age kids on zoom three times a week-every week! Yes my kids participated in every class, no they weren't thrilled about that…and yes my youngest climbed up into the cabinet during class and dumped a Costco sized cheese balls container all over the floor while I was teaching! Like I said you name it, our classes can accommodate any age and fitness level. Athletes, non athletes, dancers, non dancers, littles, tweens, teens, college age, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's..Yes I have had clients in their late 70's in class. So come join us for a great time and a fabulous sculpting session!
